What should you inspect before engaging an estimator?

The sample should let your team reopen a quantity, see its source and understand the assumption applied. It should also show how addenda and vendor quotes are controlled.

What claims should not decide the selection?

Do not accept invented accuracy percentages, anonymous testimonials or guaranteed outcomes. Compare the proposed method with the complexity of the pack and your internal review needs.

  • No unverifiable win rate
  • No generic quantity total without sources
  • No hidden assumptions
  • No engineering sign-off claim from an unregistered party

How should a trial package be scoped?

Choose one representative system, define the issued documents and specify the expected takeoff structure. Your estimator can then compare the result with a known package before assigning a live bid.

Common questions

What else should the bid team know?

Should the lowest fee decide?

No. Compare scope, review effort, handover format and the risk of an untraceable estimate.

Does the estimating company need to design the system?

Not unless design is explicitly in scope and delivered under the responsible registered engineer.

What should a sample hide?

It should not expose another customer's identity, project, rates or documents. A synthetic example can still show the method.
